Meticulous documentation of the Homefront / Military Industrial Complex War Effort with heavy focus on the female work force. Attributed to Westinghouse Electric Manufacturing Company (Pittsburgh PA) which according to research, is said to have produced over 5 million shells before 1918. Likely Westinghouse internal reference, shot by a skilled photographer and developed matte on something akin to factory draft paper with original binder holes. This is consistent with other archives found over the years. Difficult to date, though no later than the 1930s. Possibly period. Typewritten captions on pages that measure 8.25 x 10.75”. (69) photographs include: (31) Women at Work - shirt waist era wearing flour sack dresses, high victorian boots with their leather wrist gauntlets to protect from the machinery and goggles / behind blast shields when working with unstable chemicals. Stuffing rifle cotton, machining and boring tedious parts. (10) Men at Work including Machines & Campus Transport (28) Machines, Scientific Drying and Measuring Equipment, Raw Materials / Chemicals and other Transport PLUS (11) Assembly Charts and (18) Schematics. Generally good condition with consistent soiling at edges and occasional filing pen marks. A few have edge tears or creases, none on key images. Comprehensive and important archive.
