Scotia Seminary was the first female HBCU founded after the Civil War (1870) by the Presbyterian Church to educate the daughters of slaves into the roles of teachers and social workers. It was modeled on Mount Holyoke and often called the Holyoke of the South.
In 1896, it was merged with the Barber Memorial College of Anniston Alabama to create Barber Scotia Junior College for Women.
The school granted its first four year degree in 1945 and became a four year women’s college in 1946, before becoming co-ed in 1954.
This pamphlet advertises the school as four year and accredited with no men in sight, dating to between the late 40s and 1954.
Measures 4 x 9” w/ 4 double sided panels. Very nice condition w/ trivial foxing. Couldn’t be rarer on a dare.
